Who We Are
The SRO Families United Collaborative is a multiracial, multilingual collaboration of five community-based organizations: Chinatown Community Development Center (CCDC), Chinese Progressive Association (CPA), Coalition on Homelessness (COH), Dolores Street Community Services (DSCS), South of Market Community Action Network (SOMCAN).

We are based in Chinatown, the Mission, the Tenderloin, and South of Market in San Francisco, and share the common goals of organizing and empowering families living in Single Room Occupancy (SRO) hotels, striving to defend their rights, improve conditions in their buildings, ensure access to services, and seek decent, affordable housing.

Since our founding in 2000, our team has endeavored to bring fresh ideas and passion to our activities, rooted in the conviction that sometimes, all it takes to change the world is a little support.
WHAT WE DO
Through our current initiatives, SRO Families United Collaborative is improving lives in our communities and making steadfast progress on housing and living conditions. Learn more about our ongoing projects and the ways we are working to promote positive change.
Rental
subsidies
Through advocacy and determination, the families in SROs have received hundreds of thousands of dollars in funds from the City of San Francisco for deep, targeted rental subsidies. In 2019 and early 2020, 17 families received subsidies and found private market rentals. For 2020 and 2021, more than 15 families are receiving subsidies.
Advocacy
We strive to confront the challenges faced by families in San Francisco. Our collaborative works with city agencies and community-based organizations to defend the rights of families living in SRO hotels, improve conditions in their buildings, ensure access to services, and seek decent, affordable housing.
Residential Conditions
We work to improve living conditions for all tenants, and as part of the Code Enforcement Outreach Program (CEOP) we support tenants, owners, and the Department of Building Inspection (DBI) so the City and community can work together to bring rental housing into compliance and provide better living conditions for SRO families.
Leadership training
Our team provides trainings and education to SRO families, empowering them to advocate for better living conditions and affordable housing. Over the course of eight weeks, we work with families to strengthen skills in self advocacy, educate about housing and tenants rights, and help set them on the path of civic engagement by improving public speaking skills and demystifying community advocacy.
